2010
Dear Members
of the Pacifica School District Learning Community,
This is
truly a great honor for me to serve as superintendent for
Pacifica School District. I am extremely excited about the
opportunity to continue the level of excellence our district
reflects. I have included in this letter of introduction information
about myself and focus as we close out the 2009-10 school
year and plan for 2010-11.
Having moved to the Bay Area two years ago, my husband and
I lived in Pacifica for a short period of time and settled
in San Francisco with our two dogs, Anni and Bella. We are
enjoying ourselves by taking advantage of experiences such
as the visual and performing arts, the fabulous eateries,
and the great scenery that is everywhere you look! We also
continue to frequent Fresno to visit my mother, sister and
her family. Additionally, we try to spend time in southern
California to visit grandchildren in Pasadena and San Diego.
I have served as a public educator for approximately 30 years,
beginning my career in Los Angeles Unified School District
as an instructional assistant and teacher. I then moved back
to Fresno and fulfilled various roles in Fresno Unified School
District as a teacher, reading specialist, vice principal,
principal and director. I have also had the opportunity to
serve as assistant superintendent in Firebaugh-Las Deltas
Unified, and most recently San Francisco Unified. It is my
hope that my range of experiences will serve the Pacifica
School District well as we meet the challenges that are ahead
of us in public education.
During the months of July and August I, along with Dr. Davide
Celoria our new Associate Superintendent for Educational Support
Services who is replacing Kitty Mindel, will be reviewing
the current curriculum, Strategic Plan, fiscal reports, and
other elements of the district to ensure we have a strong
working knowledge of the district. We have been meeting with
Ms. Vickrey on a regular basis, and have had the opportunity
to include Ms. Mindel and Josie Peterson, Chief Business Official,
as well. Their open and collaborative nature is greatly appreciated.
Additionally, the wonderful Pacifica staff has reached out
to us, providing key information regarding current needs and
policies and procedures so we may make good decisions for
our district. We have been invited to and participated in
the end of the year meetings with our talented and knowledgeable
leadership team of the District Office and principals. Thus
far we have filled key district positions with extremely talented
individuals who share the same vision.
In addition to getting to know the district, I also intend
to reach out to the community so the Pacifica School District
may continue to support and enhance the many activities and
needs of Pacifica. As a method for gaining input from all
of you, I have attached a brief
questionnaire that I hope you complete and submit. It
is important to gain a sense of perspective from all stakeholders
to ensure we continue enhancing our district. The information
gathered will serve as a filter in developing and modifying
our current practices.
In closing, I am confident that we will continue the level
of excellence that is the fabric of Pacifica School District.
I look forward to engaging with each of you at a personal
level over time. I would also be remiss to not personally
thank Susan Vickrey and the Pacifica Board of Education for
their support during this transition process.
Sincerely,
Wendy
S. Tukloff, Ed.D.
